How to Play Gin Rummy

1. Draw and Discard: At the start of your turn, you must either draw the top card from the face-down stock pile or take the top card from the face-up discard pile. After drawing, you must then discard one card from your hand, placing it face-up on the discard pile.
2. Form Melds: The primary goal is to organize your 10-card hand into valid melds. Melds can be sets of three or four cards of the same rank (e.g., three Queens) or runs of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit (e.g., 4, 5, 6 of Hearts).
3. Knock Strategically: When the total value of your unmelded cards (known as deadwood) is 10 points or less, you have the option to 'knock'. This ends the playing phase of the round, and both players reveal their hands for scoring.
4. Score Points: After a knock, both players lay out their melds. The knocker's deadwood is subtracted from the opponent's deadwood. If the knocker has less deadwood, they score the difference. If the opponent has less (an 'undercut'), they score the difference plus a bonus. A 'Gin' occurs when a player melds all 10 cards, earning a significant bonus.
