Backgammon is a Strategy Game where you roll dice and move checkers. The goal is to move all your checkers off the board before your opponent does. Players use a doubling cube to increase the stakes of the game.

How to Play Backgammon

1. Roll dice: At the start of your turn, roll two dice to determine how many points you can move your checkers. Each die represents a separate move, or their sum can be used for one checker if the intermediate point is open.
2. Move checkers: Select a checker and move it forward the number of points indicated by one or both dice. You can only land on open points, points occupied by your own checkers, or points occupied by a single opponent's checker (a blot).
3. Hit opponent's checkers: If you land on a point occupied by a single opponent's checker (a blot), you "hit" it, sending it back to the bar. Your opponent must then re-enter this checker into the game before making any other moves.
4. Bear off checkers: Once all your checkers are safely in your home board (the last quadrant), you can start bearing them off the board. You must roll the exact number needed to move a checker off, or use a higher roll if no other legal moves are available.

Backgammon Tips and Strategy

Pro Tip: In the early game, focus on building prime points (consecutive blocked points) in your home board or outer board to trap your opponent's checkers. This strategy restricts their movement significantly, making it much harder for them to escape and advance their pieces around the board.

Common Mistake: A common mistake is leaving too many single checkers (blots) exposed, especially in your outer board or near your opponent's home board. This allows your opponent to hit them easily, sending them back to the bar and forcing them to re-enter, which delays your progress and gives your opponent a significant tempo advantage.
